I think in the 19th Century people liked long, detailed travelogue stories because few of them could afford to travel. They read for entertainment and wanted their money's worth for the price of the book. I read some Verne books when I was young, and I recall enjoying THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND but wishing there had been some female characters in it. He does tend toward the exclusively male kind of story.Carmen Webster Buxtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08516485172937482027noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5124461767763964919.post-34541648026554993862012-07-11T08:59:32.984+01:002012-07-11T08:59:32.984+01:00This pretty much sums up what I thought of it too....This pretty much sums up what I thought of it too. Exciting bits in Antarctica but the lists and descriptions get too much at times. Without going into too much detail I thought the ending was possibly the weakest I've ever read in any story - not only lazy but also logically flawed.Jerryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04962968917875947445noreply@blogger.com
